What the fuck is with the NRA still defending guns after yet another period of gun violence in which inoocent people were mowed down. Yes we have the right to bear arms, a notion that came in a time of war long before automatic weapons could be bought in a tent set up in a shopping plaza parking lot. I mean come on, the evidence smacks you in the face: countries with strict gun laws or even basic common sense limits have a hugely lower death rate attributed to guns. I know the people that commit these crimes are mostly disturbed individuals with mental problems. But how many more people had to die because automatic or too powerful weapons are easily obtained. You need a gun? Fine, but does one need a machine gun or a gun that can shoot through a brick wall?

Perhaps if this country, the most advanced in technology and medicine in the world, had some form of universal health care with the access to mental health treatments there would not be so many nut jobs out there shooting up malls and schools. It is ridiculous that people in this country go without health care. We have seen some plans from the Prez candidates, let's hope it becomes a major issue. And let's hope the next Prez and congress have the cajones to do something. The time has come to stand up to insurance companies and lobbyists.

Trent Lott is retiring. This asshat voted against every single LGTB issue that came before him. Good riddance.

Cheney's offices on the White House grounds had a fire today. What was he burning now? The rest of the constitution that he doesn't agree with? The official record tally of soldiers killed in Iraq? Torture tapes? Did a hole in the floor open up exposing the flames in hell trying to suck him in --- finally. We could only hope.

I have never experienced an x-mas season where so many people seem to be downers on the holiday. I think it snuck up on a lot of people this year. A lot of customers at work have been so pissy and bitchy. Someone actually complained today about the x-mas decorations at my branch. Nothing about them screams x-mas either, basically greens with red bows on them. No ornaments, tree, or cardboard Jesus statues are anywhere to be seen. Perhaps if I crammed them down their throat while singing Joy to the World they would see things differently.

I'm about finished shopping. I got a few more gifts tonight so that's good. And my office x-mas party is tomorrow night with our secret santa gift exchange, that should be fun. I did however majorly slack off on sending x-mas cards this year, how about "Happy February" cards instead?
