Opinion Piece That Makes You Think

I found this op-ed piece in the NY Times and found it a very interesting read, especially the last three paragraphs.

Basically it gives the historical value of a marriage license and how it has been used over the centuries.

So if the goal for gay people is "marriage" do we go thru the motions with churches who sanction it knowing what we have is a marriage and let the government and ignorant people catch up some day or do gay people re-write what the author seems to think are outdated rules of a piece of paper called a "license?"

My Thanksgiving

Click and read....

So I stayed home and did a Pittsburgh Thanksgiving with Jeff. It was really nice. While we skipped the traditional turkey in favor of Jeff making some tasty BBQ ribs, all the favorite sides graced our table, mashed taters, stuffing, rolls, etc. It was a nice and relaxing low key way to spend Tahnksgiving and I'm glad we shared our first big holiday together. Here are my guys with full bellies relaxing afterwards.

The holiday weekend was rounded out with the arrival on Friday of Grace, Jerry, Matt, and Erica. I didn't get to see them on Friday but we all had a great dinner at Alison and Paul's house Saturday and a teriffic brunch on Sunday. We also saw a movie, Grace, Alison, Me, and Jeff went and saw Enchanted while Matt, Erica, and Jerry saw The Mist. I really enjoyed Enchanted. It was a cute story that blends a musical, animation, and real people to make a great love story that has some pretty funny moments. And it's fun to believe in fairy tales! Go see it.

It Wasn't Me...

So this morning my little festive x-mas tree was knocked over. I saw no signs of the Grinch or the evil santa from Futurama so I could only conclude that it was Finnigan or Jeff. They both had motive. Finny being ever so cutely curious and playful and then there is Jeff who may have been trying to get back at me for making him listen to x-mas music every time we were in the car all weekend in what I believe were rolling trips of yuletide glee.

But then I found the clues from my top notch security cameras...

2 Years

Pittsburgh-1.jpg

This month marks my two year anniversary in Pittsburgh. I've been checking my mail and so far no anniversary gifts but I'm sure they are just delayed.

It's been a fun two years. I moved from the burbs and became an urbanite doing things like paying for parking and riding public transportation. I tried new things, started working in a new city, had fun with Alison and Paul, adopted the bestest kitty in the whole world, and most importantly fell in love.

Here's to year number three.

Here Today Now

It's way cold in Pittsburgh. I like it! It's not iced tea but It's brisk baby!

Took my car in for new tires today and a state inspection. What a racket that is. Tires I need and expect to pay for especially in this hilly city that is harsh on what I like to call my car footies. But the whole state emissions/safety tests are an outdated ripoff and another way for the state to get more moolah out of us upstanding hardworking handsome citizens.

And since I had to work today and drop my car off before I went in, I had to get up like at 3:00 in the morning. Well actually 7:00 but anything on the weekend before 9:00 may as well be 3:00. Which means Jeff had to get up and drive me back to work. Have I ever mentioned that I am not a morning person?

Jeff and I are going out tonight for a romantic dinner and some kind of outing, kind of a date night type thing. Gotta slow down once and a while and have some romance. I'm still trying to decide where to go and what to do. I kind of want to go to my favorite restaurant, but also want to try someplace new.

FYI

Costco gift cards make great x-mas gifts. I have identified two hundred and seventeen million items I would like to purchase, including pistachios with the shells removed.

MVP And Stuff

The softball league finally had the annual banquet this past weekend. It was fun, it was held at Heinz field Saturday night. Nice dinner, drinks and awards. My team voted me MVP and I got up to accept my trophy right after Jeff received his from his team. Isn't that cute, we both won the same award from our teams. I told him mine was bigger and there was some initial confusion before he realized I was talking about our trophies.

Day off today for Veterans Day. Took the opportunity to relax with only breakfast out with Jeff and picking up a shelving unit generously donated to me by Alison and Paul. I now have more space on which to put my x-mas decorations!

I need some winter clothes and especially gloves. I seem to have misplaced, lost, tossed out, set fire to, put down the disposal, mailed to china, or had stolen a nice warm pair of winter gloves. I think it is time for a trip to the Timberland outlet store.

Time To Get Jolly

All signs point to it:

It's cold
The iTunes holiday folder has been opened
The glass Blenko snowman has been put out on the dining room table
I've picked out santa hats for Jeff and Thunder

X-mas is coming......

Kitty Snot

Just like his daddy, Finnigan has been sneezing the last few days. And let me tell you, this little kitty is so freaking cute when he sneezes. After he lets loose with a spray from his tiny pink nose he looks at you like he is waiting for you to say "god bless you." I don't think it is anything serious. I have been told that as long as their is no kind of discharge (eeeww) from his nose or eyes and he is otherwise eating and being his normal self that it is just a simple issue like the common cold that has to work itself out. So no visit to the vet for now, but I am keeping an eye on the Finnmeister and his adorable nasal passageways.

Not too much else happening lately. I have been just trying to take it easy and get my own nose under control. I think I am going to see a doctor and get prescription sinus/allergy medicine. I think it would be more effective and I figure an occasional co-pay for a script would be cheaper than always buying over the counter meds. Besides, I think I just pee Nyquil out. Yep I'm so immune to it now it's like beer -- passes right through.

Looking forward to tonight, Jeff is making dinner and we are relaxing and watching our Thursday night shows.

People Watching At The Courthouse

Took the day off today. Jeff had a court date downtown in Pittsburgh traffic court. The extra hour sleep we got this weekend came in handy since we had to be up, downtown, parked, and in court by 8:30. It went well, Jeff had to stand in front of who we swear was the reincarnation of Thurgood Marshall, seriously spitting image, for about ten seconds. I didn't get to yell "I object, he's to cute to go to jail" because he got a break on his speeding ticket and had it knocked down to 5 mph over which is no points which reallywas the goal of going to court. And he gets a refund of $20 on the fine he already paid.

But if you like people watching and judging like we do, court is the place to be. Young, old, rich, poor, players, player haters, yinzers, they were all out in force hoping for the best from their appearances. But one thing that struck me was the attire of many people. Isn't court a place you would want to make the best impression possible? I understand not suiting up for traffic and other minor issues, but still put the old t-shirt that you wear as a night gown and sneakers away. And no, using the Bedazzler on your shirt does not make it classy. Even jeans are fine with a nice shirt, but stretch pants and a sleevless shirt on anyone that can remember disco is just wrong. And I'm not just talking about the gay guys.

Rest of the day was relaxing and catching up on reading and crosswords.
