Canadian researchers report they have "solved" checkers, developing a program that cannot lose in a game popular with young and old alike for more than a thousand years.......The checkers research was supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Alberta's provincial technology organization iCORE, Canada Foundation for Innovation, Western Canada Research Grid and the University of Alberta.

Well Great day in the morning, it's about time someone created something to bring down the game of checkers. What's assanine about this is that the article went on to say how it took 18 years and who knows how much money by the sponsors. Seriously, can people really make a living doing this? Are there really people that will pay for this type of "research?" Good for them, that will be something to tell the grandkids about someday.
